Can Boone be bought?

Pam and “JW” Williamson’s political machine is desperately attempting to keep control of our town government by re-electing Loretta Clawson, Lynne Mason and Bunk Spann.  They claim that a vote for new leadership, called for by the Citizens for Change, will bring unbridled development, wreck and ruin to the Town of Boone.  They promote the lie that wealthy, greedy, unprincipled businessmen are spending tens of thousands and bringing in high priced New York consultants to steal the coming election. i.e. "A hired consultant was the centerpiece of the meeting" from wataugawatch.com

The Pam and “JW” Williamson group claim that electing new leadership at Boone Town Hall will result in the “Sale of Boone” causing the destruction of all that is good in our town.  Ironically, in past elections Loretta Clawson, Lynne Mason and Bunk Spann, puppets of the Pam and “JW” Williamson political machine, spent thousands of dollars in campaign funds.  Loretta Clawson managed to spend over $5,000 ($8 per vote) in campaign funds even though she only faced minimal opposition in that election.  Lynne Mason spent $7.70 for each vote she received in 2003.  ($800 of which came from Pam Williamson’s PAC of 100 Women)  Bunk Spann spent $9.70 for each vote he received in 2003.

The answer to the question “Can Boone be bought?” is yes!  Many now realize that several years ago, while the citizens of Boone were dozing, a political machine began buying elections and small chunks of our town.  The purchases weren’t land or buildings but small chunks of our sense of community, small chunks of our initiative and self-reliance, small chunks of our belief in fairness and small chunks of our rights to private property.   The purchases also include small chunks of our confidence and belief that a Mayor and Town Council would always be committed to faithfully and fairly serving all the people openly and without favor or bias.

Our local elections and these small chunks of Boone are being bought, not with money, but with political favors, with promises of campaign support, arm twisting, flattery, vicious personal attacks on the web and letters to the editor, appointments to town boards or leadership positions in political parties.

So far, these purchases have been made easy because many unsuspecting citizens do not realize that some so-called “civic minded people” are motivated by extreme and often misguided political ideologies which corrupt our community.  The purchases are made easy because of the blind allegiance of some voters to certain political bosses and their chosen candidates simply because they represent a particular political party. (Ignoring the fact that our town elections are non-partisan and should remain that way)  And finally, the most disturbing fact is that the purchases are made easy because less than 10% of registered voters took the time to vote in the last town election.

We invite everyone to join with Citizens For Change to take down the “FOR SALE” sign and stop Pam and “JW” Williamson and the political machine from completing the purchase!

Help us take back our local government,  Elect Tim Wilson, Dempsey Wilcox, Ethan Dodson and Stephen Phillips on Oct. 9th.
