Boone has so far refused to waive fees for WHS

It seems as though all segments of the community are working towards the common goal of building a new and much needed Watauga High School.  All that is with the exception of the Boone Town Council.

Appalachian State University sold portions of the new high school property to the county for less than market value. The County Commissioners have worked diligently to make the dream a reality.

The Boone Town Council on the other hand has bent over backwards to be an obstacle to the new school. At one point in the discussion between the Town and the County, council member Lynne Mason demanded that the County provide new sidewalks down the Hwy 421 corridor. To which, the chairman of the County Commissioners replied, that they do not own the land or the easements and therefore are not capable of installing the sidewalks.

The latest example of non-cooperation by the Boone Council is their refusal to waive the anticipated $130,000 in fees and permits the County will have to pay to the Town. Money that could be used for computers, furnishings, etc...
